Responsible for accurately assessing specifications and other requirements for components to be used in systems and developing comprehensive project estimates, ensuring competitive pricing while maintaining profitability and adhering to project requirements.
Essential Requirements:
Primary responsibilities include i) evaluating technical requirements to meet system/application needs, ii) review and evaluate engineering specifications and process and instrumentation drawings, iii) maintaining Bill of Materials costing database and iv) providing technical expertise and guidance to application engineering and project management on system integration, supplier capabilities, and alternative sourcing options to support project objectives.
Effective communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with engineering, project management and quality control teams, as well as with vendors.
Performs work under limited supervision.
Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to peer-level employees in other departments or higher-level staff.
Provides coaching, training and/or mentoring to fellow employees.
Minimum bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical fields, with minimum 3 to 6 years of direct experience in estimating technical engineered-products.
Additional Duties and
Responsibilities:
Develop comprehensive project estimates, including itemized breakdowns and specific supplier quotes for higher-cost components, while considering factors such as quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer preferences.
Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other technical documents to understand project requirements thoroughly.
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and manufacturing teams to gather necessary information for estimating purposes.
Conduct research and analysis to identify innovative solutions and alternative components or suppliers to improve product/system performance and efficiency.
Maintain and update master file of supplier equipment data sheets.
Perform penultimate review of project submittals to confirm proper technical details regarding selection and indicated function of critical components.
Utilize historical data, industry benchmarks, and market trends to ensure accuracy in cost estimation.
Present estimates to management and participate in bid reviews, providing insights and recommendations to enhance competitiveness and profitability.
Maintain a database of cost estimates, pricing data, and market trends to support future estimating efforts and decision-making processes.
Stay updated on industry developments, technological advancements, and best practices in estimating methodologies to continuously improve processes and outcomes.
Refine Mechanical, Instrument, and Valve (MIV) schedule to ensure meets customer requirements/ specifications.
Work with vendors to ensure proper selection and specific model identification in compliance with specifications and Mazzei design, and clearly communicate any required deviations.
Acquire datasheets from vendors and annotate as needed to indicate specific options needed for each project.
Work closely with the engineering and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution, adherence to timelines, and compliance with quality standards.
Job Specifications (Education and/or Experience):
Minimum bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field.

Job Specifications (Specialized Knowledge & Skills):
Proficiency in review of specifications, including understanding integration of instruments, valves, pumps, and controls.
Familiarity with water treatment processes, water chemistry, and relevant regulations is highly advantageous.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply creative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software.
Knowledge of product costing/accounting software.
