Definition:
Under supervision of the Director of Facilities, receives, prioritizes, and organizes all incoming work requests specific to the engineering team.
Coordinates with engineering management on the operation, installation, and maintenance of complex medical buildings and their systems, equipment and related programs and projects.

This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position.
Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
Kern Medical's Engineering Dispatcher is responsible for the overall organization of incoming work requests throughout the hospital and its various locations.
This role has a primary duty to maintain the work order system and database to ensure proper organization of work is disseminated to the trades.
This position requires a high degree of hospital-specific knowledge, judgment, resourcefulness, diplomacy and organizational ability.
Essential Functions:
Serves as primary contact for all incoming work orders and requests (via email, phone, etc.
) through the hospital and other off site Kern Medical locations.
Evaluates and prioritizes work orders based on current facility needs and other risk factors to effectively assign work to the various trades and/or other overlapping departments.
Maintains work order system and its database, ensuring proper execution of work orders and documentation of assets.
Serves as primary contact to answer questions and assist hospital staff's work order questions, updates, and/or general information on status.
This coordination occurs at every level of management throughout the organization.
Schedules and dispatches personnel according to work order priorities, emergencies, and/or construction projects.
Organizes daily morning meetings with general maintenance and trades to align and resolve concerns that arise.
Provides solutions to problems and opportunities that arise with the engineering team.
Often in collaboration with management, staff, and departments outside of the engineering group.
Ensures that all documentation on regulatory preventative maintenance programs is correct and up to date.
Participates in EOC Committee/Regulatory process, including rounding and other meetings as assigned.
Assists Engineer with inventory control and ordering, ensuring stock equipment and supplies are readily available when needed by trades.
Contacts vendors/Contractors regarding inventory deliveries; assists with returns as necessary.
Assists in the coordination of engineering vehicle logs and tracking information.
As necessary, assists trades staff in various assignments throughout the hospital to ensure work order completion.
Generates reports and system information regarding work orders as requested by management.
Other Functions:
Performs other related duties as required to support the department.
Employment Standards:
Two (2) years of experience within a maintenance/engineering department; acute care health facility maintenance/engineering a plus, AND; Two (2) years of project planning and organization experience in an acute healthcare facility maintenance or maintenance department preferred, OR; Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience will be taken into consideration.
High school diploma required.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License required.
Knowledge of:
Facilities maintenance in a health care facility including The Joint Commission standards, preventive maintenance and work order control programs; Principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in a building maintenance program; Safety standards and provisions of the life safety and building codes applicable to maintenance and construction work; Principles of effective planning and organizing oversight; Principles of administrative procedures.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing; Develop and maintain procedural manuals, record keeping and work order request systems; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management staff, employees, contract personnel and other agencies; Establish procedures for operating high and low pressure steam boilers; Organize/plan the work of a variety of crafts persons performing building repair and alteration work; Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics and related building plans, and prepare working sketches and specifications.
