EDUCATION &
Experience:

Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that are required by Federal, State, and local guidelines. The minimum requirements for experience and education are:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology School or bachelors' degree in relevant field
  • Current ARRT & Certified Radiologic Technologist certification or licensure
  • Current California Nuclear Medicine license
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
  • Current First Aid & BLS certification
  • Ability to provide two current acceptable and verifiable professional references

SYNOPSIS OF JOB FUNCTION:
NMTs use radioactive materials (tracers) and a gamma camera to diagnose and occasionally treat diseases. Nuclear medicine is a specialized area of medical radiation technology. Under the direction of the Imaging Manager (IM) the Nuc Med Tech will perform various duties related to preparing patients for scans of particular organs or specified body areas to furnish diagnostic information. The Nuc Med Tech operates scintillation equipment to produce scans and measures of concentration of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas. They will administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients and monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which they localize.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate cameras that detect and map the radioactive drug in the patient's body to create an image on photographic film or a computer monitor
  • Explain test procedures to patients.
  • Prepare a dosage of the radio pharmaceutical and administer it by mouth, injection, or other means.
  • Prepare radio pharmaceuticals and adhere to safety standards to keep the radiation dose to workers and patients as low as possible
  • Provide high quality images/records on a computer screen or on film for a physician to interpret
  • Keep patient records and record the amount and type of radio nuclides received, used, and disposed of.
  • Operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Follow regulation regarding handling and recording.
  • Administer radionuclide doses, performance phlebotomies, and start IV's or heparin locks as needed.
  • Perform or obtain appropriate patient care for scans.
  • Recognize unusual or abnormal test results
  • Participate in meetings, projects, committees, and continuing education as needed
  • Stay knowledgeable about emerging technology
  • Performs all Nuclear Medicine procedures in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and assists in the care of patients assigned.
  • Assures necessary equipment and supplies are ordered, replaced and available.
  • Receives assignments from the IM or designee and follows up using established protocols
  • Informs IM, physician, and other appropriate personnel of results or changes in patient condition
  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters related to the patient and the organization
  • Maintains personal composure and integrity under stressful conditions
  • Performs related duties as required by the IM or designee

Salary Description
$52.00 - $77.00 hourlyEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
