Civil Engineer
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Serve as program lead for annual and deferred maintenance activities affecting administrative and recreational sites, dams, bridges/major culverts, roads and trails. Provide engineering guidance to staff in unique situations that are not governed by regulations, precedents, written instructions, or other guidelines. Determine engineering feasibility of various projects to support resource management mission. Review and approve all structures and facilities plans and designs including a variety of buildings and additions, water and sewage systems, fish enhancement facilities, retaining walls, roads, dams, trails, wells, major culverts and bridges. Perform structural, hydrologic, and hydraulic and soil engineering computations related to the design of new facilities, utility systems including water, sewer, wells, reservoirs, dams, pipelines and other miscellaneous development projects. In order to qualify for this Civil Engineer, GS-0810-12, you must meet BOTH the Basic Educational Requirement (One of the Options) AND meet the Additional Qualification Requirement stated below. BASIC Education Requirement for the 0810 Series:
Option A:
You have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree or higher in professional engineering. The curriculum is in a school of engineering with at least one engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). NOTE:

You have successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree or higher in professional engineering. The curriculum included differential and integral calculus. The curriculum also included courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the 7 following areas of engineering science or physics:
(a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electric fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. NOTE:

You do not have a Bachelor's degree in professional engineering, however, you have completed 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences, and in engineering that included the courses specified in B above. The courses were fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering program. NOTE:

You have successfully completed a curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field such as engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology AND you have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. This must include either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. NOTE:

You have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Note:

You are currently registered as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. This registration must have been obtained by written test OR be in general engineering or a directly related engineering field and was gained by State grandfather or eminence provisions NOTE:

You must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, performing professional civil engineering work. This experience includes:
(1) using professional engineering theory and methods to develop or review the design, construction and maintenance of buildings, structures, recreation facilities, bridges, dams and other facilities; (2) conducting studies and developing plans, specifications, and construction requirements such as schedules, costs, labor, and materials; (3) providing engineering guidance to staff in unique situations that are not governed by regulations, precedents, written instructions, or other guidelines; and (4) supervising construction inspection to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
