Archaeologist

Develops and maintains a cultural resource information base for the field.Conducts inventories, which may include compiling and analyzing existing data from institutional files and databases, professional literature, archival and other historical documents, original interviews, and other indirect sources.Participates as a team member in preparing multiple-use resource management plans and environmental impact documents, identifying special cultural resource considerations, potential multiple-use conflicts, and potential impacts to cultural resources.Provides Field Office employees technical advice and information regarding cultural resource management laws, regulations, and policies.Consults internally with other archeologists and resource specialists in Field, District and State Offices and externally with State and Federal Agency cultural resource professionals and educators.Reviews applications for cultural resource use permits and fieldwork authorizations, recommending approval or denial and/or changes in work proposed or personnel to be utilized.Helps prepare the cultural resources portions of the current budget and program work plans.Establishes and maintains continuing relationships with a variety of publics such as individual public land users, contractors, permit holders, and educational institutions through informal contacts, formal presentations, and public meetings. Consults externally with local tribes' Cultural Resource Specialists. Physical Demands:
Field work routinely requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces or mountainous terrain; recurring bending, crouching, stooping or reaching; using hand tools such as shovels, trowels, or screening devices; and lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment and samples.Work Environment:
The work regularly involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions, e.g., adverse weather conditions, hazardous driving conditions, irritating or occasionally hazardous chemicals; hostile wildlife; and travel in off-road vehicles. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires that you meet (A) or (B) or (C) as outlined below:
(A) Education 1. Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
History of archaeology; Archaeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; Theory and methods of archaeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques; and Archaeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work. AND Six semester hours of related course work in:
Geography, geology, or cultural geography; History, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; Scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or Surveying; AND Archaeological field school 2. Related Curriculum:
degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school).(B) Combination of Education and
Experience:
College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.(C)
Experience:
Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to meeting the requirement (A) or (B) or (C) above, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience to qualify at the GS-07:
Applicants must have one year of year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 in Federal Service. Examples may include:
participates in cultural resource inventories; completes tasks designed to develop familiarity with Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, enters inventory and site data into various geospatial databases, OR one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). Examples of specialized experience to qualify at the GS-09:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 in Federal Service. Examples may include:
participation in archeological surveys and site evaluation work; involvement in field research; compiling and/or preparing archeological site records and technical reports; OR two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Examples of specialized experience to qualify for the GS-11:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 in Federal Service. Examples may include:
planning and carrying out specific project and assignments to their completion; Planning and conducting archeological research, excavations, documentation, and investigations; Incorporating appropriate geographic information system (GIS) technology to provide comprehensive and scientifically sound answers to complex issues; Preparing or interpreting a variety of technical documents, such as, archaeological evaluations, completion reports, management summaries, permits, publications and/or peer-reviewed journal articles; And determining budget and scope of program assignments and projects; OR possess three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in an accredited college or university. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
